Mahespur Project: |
|
|
| |
| |
The Mahespur project also lies in Jharkhand on the Chhotanagpur plateau close to the border of West Bengal. The eastern part of the district lies in the plains and the west is characterized by undulating terrain and red, rocky laterite soil.
The uncertainty of the monsoon, coupled with the rapid run off, causes frequent droughts in this area. Almost 60 per cent of the population comprises Santhal and hill tribes, who are exploited by the local money lenders.
The Society intervened in 1979.
